Most evenings I check the news on Google News, StarTribune.com, and TwinCities.com before turning off the computer.

Tonight the StarTribune site was so ugly and distracting I just had to capture the screen and archive it.

When I first opened the page it was completely filled with the Lupient logo as a background image.

Moments later the rest of the page appeared. Notice that less than half the screen space is devoted to news.

I have nothing against auto dealer Lupient, but are the StarTribune and Lupient both nuts? What kind of news organization uses that much screen space for ads?

The contrast with TwinCities.com (Pioneer Press) is obvious.

Which is the more serious news site? Which offers more to online visitors?
