I talked to a very helpful sales person at a T-Mobile store who told me pretty much what you’ve just said here. Only she mentioned purchasing the phone from the store, running through the pre-paid minutes, then bringing it back to the store. How would they know if the phone was purchased there or not?

Thanks for putting this info out there. I had just purchased a 2yr contract with AT&T. Got 5 phones for me and my kids. 2 of them promptly lost theirs and I was confused on what steps to take. Don’t want to spend $100 per phone if they are just going to lose them again!

Thank You! I just spent about 30 minutes trying to find a economical replacement cell phone at the AT&T website without success. What is even worse, they try to entice you into a 2yr contract just to get a good deal.

I am going to try this tomorrow. If this works, you have saved me a lot of money!!!
